Professor Nick Craddock
MA,

Professor of Psychiatry and Honorary Consultant
Psychiatrist, Department of Psychological Medicine,
School of Medicine, Cardiff University, Wales,
UK. (craddockn@cardiff.ac.uk).
Nick Craddock was Professor of Molecular Psychiatry
and Head of the University of Birmingham Department
of Psychiatry and Division of Neuroscience until
2002 when he moved to his current position as Professor
of Psychiatry at Cardiff University, Wales, UK.
He originally studied mathematical sciences at
Cambridge University followed by Medicine at Birmingham
University. He trained in clinical psychiatry
in Birmingham and in psychiatric genetics in Cardiff
and St Louis. His research focus is the molecular
genetic investigation of bipolar spectrum mood
disorders and psychosis. He has a specific interest
in using molecular genetics to refine the clinical
phenotype. Professor Craddock heads the Cardiff
University Psychiatry Service and his clinical
interests lie in diagnosis and management of bipolar
spectrum disorders. He is on the management boards
of the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics
and the International Society for Bipolar Disorders. |

Dr Harvey Whiteford
Dr Whiteford is the Kratzmann Professor of Psychiatry and Population Health at the University of Queensland and the Principal Mental Health Advisor to the Australian Government.
Dr Whiteford trained in medicine, psychiatry and health policy in Queensland and at Stanford University He has held senior clinical and administrative positions, including those of Director of Mental Health in the Queensland and Federal governments in Australia and at the World Bank in Washington DC He has been a visiting Professor at Harvard University and the Institute of Psychiatry in London. His expertise and research interests are in mental health policy, financing and service delivery. |

Barbara Hocking, SANE
Since 1995, Barbara has been Executive Director
of SANE Australia – the national mental health
charity. SANE works for a better life for Australians
affected by mental illness, through education,
applied research and campaigning for improved
services and attitudes
SANE operates Australia's only national Freecall
1800 Helpline service providing information on
mental illness, advice and referral, and through
which the community's concerns on a range of
mental health issues are monitored. Reducing
stigma and discrimination is a special focus
for SANE which operates the award winning StigmaWatch
program from its website at www.sane.org.
Barbara represents the community perspective
on a wide range of committees and advisory groups.
With special interests in suicide prevention
and stigma reduction, currently she is a member
of the National Advisory Council on Suicide Prevention
and the National Media and Mental Health Group.
Previously SANE's Education Coordinator, Barbara
has also worked in Health Promotion and Education
in Australia, the United Kingdom and Papua New
Guinea. |

The Honourable Justice Philip Cummins
JUSTICE P.D. CUMMINS has been a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria for 20 years. Before his judicial appointment he was a Queen's Counsel for 10 years and was Chairman of the Victorian Bar.
Justice Cummins is the Dean's nominee on the Faculty of Law at the University of Melbourne and taught Legal Ethics there for 20 years. He is currently undertaking a Master of Science in the field of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder under the supervision of Professor Bruce Singh, Deputy Dean and Professor of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at that University. Justice Cummins holds the degree of Master of Laws and other degrees.
Justice Cummins has sat extensively on both the criminal and the civil side of the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. He shall address the Congress on the interface of law and medicine in psychiatry. |
